I have been loving this budgeting thing G and I are doing this month. Kinda odd I said love! It has been helping me see how much money I spend on silly things I can do myself...car washes, pedicures and manicures and things like that!
I also love how creative it is making us! My recent hair cut and facial from the Aveda Institute was complimentary and was really sweet of them to do that for me! And of course I loved both. I go to an Aveda school so it is the amazing Aveda product but SO much cheaper. You have students doing all the services. I know this can sound scary, trust me my previous haircut was a nightmare BUT if you tell them you are not pleased, they fix it for free no problem! I mean my full head of highlights was $60 and at my old Aveda salon it was $145+ so see the money you will save? This allows me to budget to keep my hair appointments while saving a lot! My facial was free (but will cost me $50 from this point on) and at the old spa it is $125. The school is the way to go! You just need to be aware that it will take longer because they are students so bring a book, take a nap or watch a movie on your iPad.
Another great thing G and I are doing is limiting our "fun money". We are giving ourselves $50 each and then $50 combined as a couple a month. I know it sounds drastic but it really makes you think about what you are spending your money on and what you really don't need. So we spent some of our combined money yesterday for lunch. We are having more fun cooking at home, in our pjs and watching WAY too much House anyway! Pinterest is a great source to find some yummy recipes. Keep in mind, I'm a Pescetarian (aka shrimp and clam chowder- I don't eat any other seafood at all and zero chicken, beef and other meats) and he isn't so we have to get real creative!
Recycle your wardrobe! I recently went through all of my clothing and donated a lot of stuff that I haven't worn in years. I am selling some stuff here so take a look! These pieces need a good home! Take a look. As I was going through everything I found pieces I forgot about and it was like I was going shopping all over again. Make sure to really know your inventory before buying a piece because you think you don't own it. I saved a lot of money doing this and fell in love again with some pieces I had in high school!
My last tip for today is writing all of your numbers out and being honest with each other. If G wasn't on board to do this, it wouldn't work. We have tried in the past and failed because one of us was not 100% on board. Having everything out in front of you, we use our budget binder, is a great tool to see how much you will have left each month to save. It keeps us organized, and we kind of get excited to update it each night. It's really great seeing how much we are saving!
I would love to know some of your budgeting tips! Let me know below :)
