Cottage Tour - Day 1

I am really fortunate to live in such a neat little (old..1902) beach cottage. Although, when we first got here we couldn't open the doors, there was no plumbing and we had no electricity. It has been a journey fixing this house and frustrating at times but it is SO close to being done I see the light at the end of the tunnel. We have half of our living room to fix...and our backyard and then we are done!

I wanted to show my cottage to you guys room by room. Our bedroom is pretty big and that is because it use to be two bedrooms. So we now use half of it as our bed/reading nook and the other half houses our desks, computer and closets...kinda like a big walk in with desks if you will. Today I am going to show you pictures of our bed nook area!

I have a really simple style, very Nantucket, vintage and ocean centered. When we open our windows you can smell the ocean and hear the waves crash and the fog horns at night, it's really calming. We wanted to incorporate all of this into this nook. This is our space to escape and I think the purple and gray color combo and the natural lighting we get really creates a calming mood.

Enjoy!

This is the view looking into our room. This entrance to our room is through the kitchen. We have two entrances to the entire bedroom. Simple and of course a whale (from Target).

I have a jewlery box but this is how I store my necklaces that I wear everyday and also my workout headbands. They are just key holders from Target. I figured what better way to make use of this strange space?

This is our dresser. This piece is VERY old and was in the house when we started fixing it up. It was all a faded brown with no knobs so I gave it some new life! I love staining and fixing up old piecces but boy do I hate sanding!

These are the knobs! We found them at Home Depot.

Daisy Duke had to be in the photos!

This is our reading nook and where I usually sit and put my heels on in the morning before work. This chair was from Gavin's aunt. We were going to fix it up but we like it all worn in looking. It really goes with the old cottage look. It's super comfy too!

This is the "her" nightstand. The shell and sand dollar are from one of my runs on the beach. My favorite book and a picture of my momma of course! I purchased the drawer at a flea market outside of San Francisco. I wish I purchased more, I love it! I love seeing "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" because it gets me so pumped for my upcoming Savannah trip! And it is a great book, I've read it probably 5 times!

The "his" nightstand was another piece that was in the house. We like incorporating as many original furnishings as possible. Gavin's Officer box is there, the kitty treats in our cute pin-up container, a photo of us and a candle from Yankee Candle! I probably should get a new frame for this picture since those are stickers from our cheerleading performance in 2011! Whoops hehe.

I love our bedroom doorknobs. They may be my favorite part of the whole room. I found these gems at Anthropologie and had to have them!

Here is our bed nook looking in from the other side of our bedroom. I love love love the lighting we get!

I can't wait to show you guys the rest of the house! I love decorating tips so please let me know any great ones you have!

Until next time...
